MOZA Base Extension Rod.
The Base Extension Rod is MOZA's own shaft extension for its direct drive wheel bases. It adds 15 centimetres between the base and the wheel, so the geometry comes closer to a real car: the wheel sits on a longer column, while the base itself can move deeper into the rig — under a dash or behind the monitor.
The part is CNC-machined from aerospace-grade aluminium, 175 mm long overall with a 72 mm maximum diameter. MOZA states high rigidity and resistance to deformation, while the light construction keeps rotational inertia down, so force feedback stays easy to read. The original MOZA quick release is retained, so wheels still come on and off without tools.
MOZA lists compatibility with its whole base line-up: R3, R5, R9, R12, R16 and R21. The box holds a mounting bracket, a cable, corner brackets and M8 hardware with T-slot nuts — a set aimed at an aluminium profile rig. Before ordering, make sure your rig or desk has room for the wheel in its new position.
The geometry of a real steering column
In a race car the wheel sits out on a steering column, with a clear gap between the rim and the steering gear. On a desk a direct drive base ends up almost against the wheel, and the whole assembly looks shorter than it does in a car. The rod adds 15 centimetres between the base shaft and the quick release and brings back the proportions of a real column.

The base moves behind the monitor
The main side effect of the rod is free space in front of you. The base can move back under a dash or straight behind the monitor, leaving only the wheel in view. On compact rigs and desks that is a visible difference: the screen comes closer to your eyes and the bulky base stops cutting into the bottom of the picture.

Stiffness without dead weight
A longer shaft works as a lever, so the part is CNC-machined from aerospace-grade aluminium: 175 mm long overall with a 72 mm maximum diameter. The maker rates the part for high rigidity and resistance to deformation, while the light alloy keeps rotational inertia on the axis down. The less dead mass spins with the wheel, the more honestly the small details of force feedback come through.

The quick release stays in place
The rod sits between the base shaft and MOZA's standard quick release rather than replacing it. Swapping wheels stays the same few-second, tool-free move: pull the collar and the wheel lifts off. The box also holds a cable, brackets, M8 screws with T-slot nuts and a hex wrench.

What to check before fitting
The rod is made for the MOZA R3, R5, R9, R12, R16 and R21 bases and fits without modification. The included hardware — M8 screws with T-slot nuts and corner brackets — targets an aluminium profile rig; if the base is clamped to a desktop, some of the brackets may not be needed. Measure the reach in advance: if the base stays where it is, the wheel ends up 15 cm closer to you and needs room.
